Our Heritage

For almost half a century, Republic Arms has been involved in the fire arms industry in South Africa, from manufacturing al importing of Internation brands.

Republic Arms (Pty) LTD was established in 1968 as a firearm dealer and manufacturer.

Between inception and 1994, Republic Arms focused on the manufacturer of revolvers, pistols, and pump action shotguns, supplying the police and other parastatals.

The decline in demand for locally manufactured firearms since the new Act of 2000 and the lifting of the International Arms embargo in 1994 allowed the importation of firearms from the international manufacturers. In 2005, Republic Arms was awarded the agency from Beretta Defence, Systems Italy.

Between 2010 and 2013, republic Arms represented in the Beretta commercial market offering side by side and over and under shotguns and rifles for hunting and clay pigeon shooting. Slow deliveries and corporate red tape encouraged Republic Arms to find a better alternative supplier. Today, the company represents the Italian companies of Zoli and Bettinsoli in the commercial market. Zoli is the oldest rifle making company in Italy, whereas Bettinsoli was established in the 1960’s and was the original supplier to Franchi, a subsidiary of Beretta.

Republic Arms has an established comprehensive service and repair facility and provides a range of stock sizes, including left handed to better fit the client’s needs.

Republic Arms can also supply a range of other security products, ammunition and firearm accessories and is available to supply relevant information and catalogues.

The managing director, Jeff Smale, joined the company in 1976 and has a wealth of experience in both the manufacturer and sales of arms.
